New York Fashion Week is something that fashion students dream of. Between the crazy outfits, getting stopped in the street for interviews, and the countless amount of fashion shows to go to, there is a lot to do.
Back in February, I attended NYFW with my internship, Fashion Talks in Cleveland, and there are not enough words to describe how amazing it was. However, the glamor and the aesthetic of fashion week is quite surface level. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that is chaotic and stressful, but completely worth it.
This was my first time in New York so while attending shows and events, I had to figure out how to navigate the city and learn more about how to approach the craziness that is New York City.
Attending fashion shows was one of my favorite parts of visiting the city. I was also very thankful for my internship because I was able to see two shows on the official NYFW calendar, Juzui, and Global Fashion Collective.
The Juzui show was stunning and the designer seemed to enjoy mixing patterns and having fun with unusual color combinations. Global Fashion Collective had two designers in the show and each were very different. Alex S Yu was bright colors and fun layering while Longshi was elegant traditional wear and a celebration of the Lunar New Year.
It was such a fun time being at the shows because of all the different photo spots and interviews going on. There were multiple times throughout my trip where I was either stopped on the street or asked after a show what I thought about trends or my own style or what I was wearing.
There were also a countless amount of pop ups and different events that we went to while in New York. A few events that I attended were an Ed Hardy pop-up, a Madeline Marie Vintage pop-up, and an NYFW Backstage event.
In between all of the exciting shows and events was the madness. We were going from place to place and would not be back at the hotel until 9 p.m. after leaving at 10 a.m. One thing that was really brutal was the heels. My feet were dying by the end of the day and sometimes I could barely take another step. When my shoes came off at the end of the day, I could not have been happier.
Every day that I was there was nonstop and we kept going, it was brutal and tiresome and I would fall asleep at restaurants sometimes, but I would do it all over again. NYFW might have caused some foot pain and sleepiness but it was some of the best moments of my life because it gave me a look into my future.
