Here we go again with one of the most exciting weeks of the fashion world, New York Fashion Week. Last year I had the opportunity to go through my internship with Fashion Talks/Fashion Talks Foundation and I have decided to intern with the icon herself, Aimon Ali, this spring too. Once again, I was given the chance to attend the city during Fashion Week.

It’s honestly a little hard to know where to begin with one of the most energetic weeks of the season. From fashion shows to networking events and dinners, there are so many places to go and an infinite amount of people to meet.

This year I was able to attend two different shows, the Alexis Bittar jewelry showcase and one night of the Art Hearts Fashion Shows. The Alexis Bittar presentation was nothing like I have ever seen before. It was more of an experience than it was a show, as the designer intended. He said in commentary with WWD, “I decided to create an entire world in which we were transported into the future, specifically 2050.”

Between the performers and the glass cases filled with some of the most beautiful jewelry I have ever seen, it was an astonishing experience. In my perception, the designer hit his goal of transforming the space into a place in the future, it was surreal and dystopian. Even the shadows on the wall from the performers were a little eerie and unsettling.

The Art Hearts show, on the other hand, was full of life and crazy energy with the models, designers, and the crowd. Multiple designers showcased their work, and it was entrancing to see how each designer perceived fashion and how they wanted to display their work. Runway shows have so many elements to them to make sure the designs are conveyed in the way they are meant to, such as the models, the lighting, the music, and more.

Each of the designers had very different aesthetics to them, and each had their own beauty. Some of the pieces were whimsical and out there while others were grungy and had an alternative or even country edge to them. Having two Art Hearts shows in my book (I attended one of last year's shows too), I can confidently say that it is always a good time with some good designs.

Not only were the shows amazing, but the city is electric, fashionable, and lively during this time, which makes the experience even better. If you ever have the chance to go, I highly encourage you to not turn down the opportunity as it might just give you the spirit you don’t know you need. I mean, it did for me.
