If you haven’t heard of him before, Arden Jones is an LA-based artist who creates emotion-provoking alternative/pop music. I discovered him years ago on TikTok through his song, “indifferent”. As I started listening to more of his music, I became a pretty big fan and he has become one of my favorite artists to listen to on Spotify. According to the bio on his website, he draws inspiration from Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, and J. Cole (check out my article about J. Cole, my favorite artist). All three of those rappers are fantastic and have become some of the biggest rappers in the music industry.

Something I feel not many people do is truly listen to the lyrics of a song to figure out the meaning behind it, what the artist is trying to relay, and how the song makes you feel. Trust me when I say I have analyzed and followed along with his lyrics. His songs give a sense of relatability of anything between heartbreak and struggling to feel happy with life. Personally, I can relate a lot to those topics because if you have read my other articles about mental health, you know I have had quite a few struggles of my own.
Sharing emotions and stories publicly is not something easy to do. To me, I have become more comfortable with it so mental health has become a very sharable topic to me. With Arden Jones, his raw emotion and storytelling are vulnerable and I appreciate his ability to express his emotions with the world.

2022 was when I really started to follow him and keep up with his releases. He decided to release a three song EP at the start of every month, which excites and keeps his listeners on their toes, something that is really refreshing and do not see often.
One of his biggest songs, “horror story”, is 100% one of my favorites from his discography. With this song from age tape 0, he describes the girl he has feelings for and her struggle with mental health. Her disguise to the public fools everyone, however he can realize her hurt and desire for help on the inside. The lines I love most from this song is, “On the inside cries for help but/On the out her eyes are dry”. There is a concerning amount of mental health disorders in today’s day and age, with so many people struggling from depression, anxiety, and more. I can’t speak for most people, but this line is extremely understandable to me, it seems like so many people these days put on a face to hide what they are feeling inside.

Additionally, his single “roll the dice” is another one of my favorites from his collection. Listening to this song, you can tell his strong feelings for a girl in his life. He relays how much he would do for her to stay by his side and his protection of her. Her beauty is expressed through some of the lines and when listening to the song, you can tell he would do anything for this girl, which I think is something that most of us girls dream about.
If you aren’t a part of his 960.8k monthly Spotify listeners, I highly recommend giving him a listen. For me, his songs hit home and feel comforting knowing that I am not the only one who has those scary, dark thoughts and emotions. Below, I have the code for Spotify’s “This is Arden Jones” which highlights some of his best and most popular songs. I strongly urge you to check it out (I’m listening to him right now as I am writing this blog post).
