fashion and your emotions

What do you think of when you think of fashion? A certain piece? Outfits? Pinterest? Instagram? Influencers? Fashion is a very subjective topic, and it means something different to everyone, there is no right or wrong answer.

Personally, I love connecting my style with my emotions. I feel as if I do not have an “overall style”; there is something new to experiment with every day. Whether it be a darker and more mysterious aesthetic or light and bohemian, there are an endless amount of options. So why not play around with it all?

If you have ever seen a runway show or keep up with new collections from brands, they are all trying to evoke emotions in the consumer. Robert Wun is my all-time favorite example of this topic. This Hong Kong designer started gaining global recognition in 2023 after being the first Hong Kong designer to join the Haute Couture runway. Not only was he the first for this week, but the collection he designed was remarkable.

His collection for Haute Couture Week grabbed the attention of countless people in the fashion industry. One piece in particular titled “The Spilled Wine Gown” is an impeccable piece that demonstrates the mistakes that make us human. The white gown that resembles a wedding dress is covered in stains that simulate spilled red wine. The stained dress is paired with a matching wool hat, mesh gloves, and white knee-high platform boots. The runway model also carries a wine glass filled with a substance that resembles red wine.

The emotions drawn out from this piece remind me that I’m a human and part of that is making mistakes, such as spilling red wine on a white garment. While these kinds of reminders or emotions are conjured up with a gown on the Haute Couture runway, there are still ways to incorporate emotions into everyday fashion.

There are so many options for creating feelings with personal and everyday style. Wearing darker clothes with a more grungy style connects with me more in winter or when I’m feeling edgy and experimental. While on the other hand, when in a happy and grateful mood, I might go for a more colorful and light kind of style experimentation.

Fashion is everything and anything you want it to be. The personal connection to style is important because it allows you to express yourself and share with the world who you are and what you like. Experiment, play around, and just have fun with fashion, because why the hell not?
