There is so much I could say about social media. It is talked about a lot and people have many different opinions about it. There will always be a part of me that wonders if I should buy a flip phone and cut out all social media. That will never happen. While social media can be toxic, hurtful, and addictive, it’s also something that can be fun and entertaining if you use it in the right way.

Instagram is something that I have really enjoyed recently because I don’t care what people think and I’m going to post whatever I want. People might look at my posts or stories and heavily question me, but who the hell cares? In the end, it’s not that deep. Before I go off on this little rant, I will fully admit that I edit my photos. I’m not face-tuning myself to look completely different but I do edit my photos to adjust the highlights, contrast, colors, etc. just to enhance the photo.

This is probably something that people have talked about way too much, but social media is something that can connect people who live hundreds of miles away from each other. All my hometown friends go to different schools, and with the different platforms, I still get to see a little part of their life. I know that it’s a small part of their life on social media, but it’s still something that connects us when we’re away.

Tik Tok is a different story. I probably spend a little too much time on Tik Tok, but it’s not toxic content on my for you page. I have some random and odd content on Tik Tok but my favorite thing is finding new music. I have found a lot of the music I listen to on Tik Tok whether it’s a well-known artist’s latest single or an underground artist that is trying to get their big break. However, I get jealous when I see concert videos of my favorite artists.

Social media has many toxic issues like unrealistic physical expectations, unsupportive content, and competition between people. But it doesn’t have to be that way because it’s all about how you use it and how you personalize it.
